The non-extension of the term of the grain agreement, which provides for a significant part of the world’s demand for grain, may lead to serious consequences, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said while answering journalists’ questions at the organization’s headquarters in New York, the US bureau of Report informs.
He noted that negotiations are underway to extend the agreement, which will expire in ten days.
He added that next week he will visit Istanbul to complete efforts to resolve the problem.
