Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has said three tankers exploded after hitting naval mines while transiting through the Strait of Hormuz without Iranian permission, Report informs referring to Al Jazeera.
The tankers had turned off their geolocation tracking systems as they sailed in the southern part of the strait, the IRGC said.
The vessels were left burning off the southern coast of the strait, it added.
Iran has repeatedly warned against passage without its authorisation through the waterway, a vital route for energy shipments.
