Bulgaria has evacuated its diplomats from Iran to Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced on Wednesday.
Report informs via Bulgarian media that Zhelyazkov said 12 Bulgarian diplomats and their family members were in Iran at the time.
"(...) We decided that our diplomats must leave Iran. We strongly encouraged all Bulgarians who wished to join the convoy to do so. Yesterday, they departed in 11 vehicles. There were alternatives — they could have traveled through Türkiye— but in the end, we decided they should go through Azerbaijan, toward Baku. (...) Our compatriots are now in Baku and will return home by land and air," the prime minister said.
