An international conference titled "June 1984, Events in Amritsar: Transnational Repression by India Against Ethnic Minorities in the Context of Genocide" will be held on June 3 in Baku. The event is organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) and is dedicated to the repressive policies of the Indian government toward ethnic minorities.
According to Report, the event will bring together influential representatives of the Sikh community from Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and the United States, as well as heads of think tanks, experts in human rights and ethnic minority issues, and direct victims of what is described as repressive, racist, and persecutory policies by the Indian government, including representatives of the Dalit community.
The conference will discuss the issue of keeping on the agenda of international organizations the topic of transnational repression and systematic persecution allegedly carried out by the Indian government against ethnic and religious minorities, particularly members of the Sikh and Dalit diasporas and their families.
There will also be an exchange of views on strengthening coordinated cooperation between diaspora organizations affected by repression, enhancing joint legal protection mechanisms against transnational persecution, and joint actions on international platforms.
Participants will also discuss the international legal assessment of armed attacks, acts of violence, and the deaths of thousands of innocent people allegedly committed by India against the Sikh community and its religious and cultural values during the events in Amritsar in June 1984, as well as India's fulfillment of its obligations to international organizations regarding the rights of ethnic minorities.
