Kairat Sarybay: CICA to enter sustainable development trajectory thanks to Azerbaijan’s chairmanship

Thanks to the Azerbaijani chairmanship, CICA will enter the trajectory of sustainable development to ensure cooperation and security in Asia, CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay told journalists on the sidelines of the 8th plenary session of the Business Council of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) held in Baku.

Report quotes him as saying the main focus of the business council is the development of international relations of representatives of small and medium-sized businesses of CICA member countries.

"The Business Council brings together representatives of governments and business associations. Therefore, it is extremely important to have such a platform that covers 90% of Asia, 28 member states, from the Pacific Ocean to the Mediterranean, from the Arctic Ocean to the Indian Ocean," Sarybay said.

The secretary general noted that all these countries are engaged in economic development, and small and medium businesses play a very significant role in the economies of the CICA countries.

"Therefore, it is important for small and medium businesses to have broad horizons for the entire continental development. And we understand that Asia is not a closed continent. On the contrary, Asia today plays a major role in global economic development, both in terms of technology development and in terms of the development of the new economy," the secretary general added.

Sarybay emphasized that today's business council achieved its goal: "I believe that the Azerbaijani chairmanship has had a brilliant start, will be highly productive, and CICA will enter a trajectory of sustainable development to ensure cooperation and security in Asia."
